EnterpriseDB Advanced Server Cloud Edition Beta Program Targets Key Partners, Cloud Computing Pioneers
EDISON, N.J., Jan. 29, 2008 — EnterpriseDB, the Oracle-compatible database company, today announced EnterpriseDB Advanced Server Cloud Edition, a version of the company’s flagship RDBMS that is built on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) Web services. EnterpriseDB has selected Elastra, the world’s first provider of elastic relational databases on demand, as its premier cloud computing software partner. Elastra’s Elastic Database Technology enables EnterpriseDB Advanced Server to run in a virtual, highly scalable, cloud-computing environment. EnterpriseDB and Elastra will jointly support EnterpriseDB Advanced Server Cloud Edition beta customers. The beta program for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server Cloud Edition will begin in March 2008, and EnterpriseDB is now accepting applications for participation in the program at www.enterprisedb.com/products/postgres_plus_as/cloud.do.
EnterpriseDB Advanced Server Cloud Edition provides the high performance and dependable stability required for mission-critical, scalable transactional (OLTP) applications and is ideal for:
Set-up, maintenance, expansion, backup, and monitoring of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server Cloud Edition are done via a simple, Web-based graphical interface. All existing software tools, programming languages, and technologies may be immediately used exactly as they would be on on-premise database software and server hardware.
“Amazon Web Services provide highly reliable and robust computing and storage infrastructure that can scale easily to accommodate the demand peaks of mission-critical applications,” said Steve Rabuchin, director of developer relations, Amazon Web Services. “EnterpriseDB Cloud Edition users will be supported by the same technology infrastructure that Amazon.com uses.”
“EnterpriseDB Advanced Server Cloud Edition demonstrates the power of our Elastic Database Technology, which enables standard relational databases and database clusters to dynamically scale in a cloud computing environment,” said Kirill Sheynkman, president and CEO, Elastra. “We are pleased that such a forward-thinking organization as EnterpriseDB has chosen Elastra to help bring their cloud computing vision to market.”
“EnterpriseDB Cloud Edition goes beyond other cloud-enabled database offerings to provide a robust, enterprise-class RDBMS environment that has the performance necessary for the most demanding OLTP applications,” said Bob Zurek, chief technology officer, EnterpriseDB. “In the future, enterprises will view massive capital investment in on-premise server infrastructure to support database applications as entirely optional.”
