EDISON, N.J., Nov. 30, 2005 - EnterpriseDB Corporation, an enterprise database company, announced today the general availability release of EnterpriseDB 2005 for both the SPARC- and x86-based Solaris operating system from Sun Microsystems. EnterpriseDB 2005 is an enterprise-class database that is built on PostgreSQL, the world's most advanced open source database. EnterpriseDB 2005 runs most existing Oracle applications and all PostgreSQL applications. More information and EnterpriseDB 2005 downloads are available from the company's website at www.enterprisedb.com.
"Sun's recent decision to integrate and support the PostgreSQL database has highlighted to Solaris customers the superiority of PostgreSQL over other open source databases in terms of reliability, scalability and suitability for enterprise use," said Andy Astor, chief executive officer of EnterpriseDB. "EnterpriseDB is an attractive alternative for many of those customers, as it adds significant enterprise features, including the ability to run most existing Oracle applications without modification, and to build new applications using the Oracle skill sets they already possess."
EnterpriseDB 2005 is free for evaluation, development and low-volume production deployments and includes unlimited Web-based technical support. Enterprise software licenses are bundled with technical support and software update services. Bundles range in price from $1,000 to $5,000 per CPU, per year.
