Open Source Databases Can Lower Database Costs by 50%, Says Leading Research Firm

EnterpriseDB Webinar Featuring Leading Research Firm and Sony Online Entertainment Demonstrates Enterprise Open Source Database Momentum

ISELIN, N.J., Nov. 14, 2006 – According to Forrester Research, open source databases can lower an enterprise’s database total cost of ownership (TCO) by fifty percent. This finding and others were presented in an online seminar delivered on Oct. 12, 2006 entitled “Realizing the Value of Open Source Databases: How Sony Online Entertainment Replaced Oracle with EnterpriseDB”. The online seminar featured Noel Yuhanna, senior analyst, Forrester Research, and David Manifold, director of database services, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). Yuhanna first shared market insights and best practices for evaluating, selecting and implementing enterprise open source database solutions. Next, Manifold discussed how SOE is migrating some of its key online gaming applications to EnterpriseDB, an enterprise-class open source database. During the seminar, Forrester’s Yuhanna also reported that:

• Mainstream industries are adopting open source databases, including education, telecommunications, government, retail, and manufacturing

• An increasing number of ISVs and VARs are using open source databases
• The adoption rate of open source databases is estimated to grow by 50% annually for next three years
