Welcome EDB's 2022 Summer Interns!

June 13, 2022

EDB is excited to welcome eleven interns to various teams across the organization this summer! These interns will be supporting teams in marketing, sales and product development, and will focus on projects that will aid the organization to further our goals. While this is just the second year the Talent Acquisition team has hired and facilitated a formal internship program, it is already off to a great start!

The cohort of interns at EDB this summer come from a variety of educational backgrounds and experience levels. There are folks just coming out of or finishing up their undergraduate degrees, completing MBA and other Master's programs and some who made a career shift and went back to school for another Bachelor's degree!

This diversity is exciting for EDB, showcasing a range of perspectives that we’re excited for each program participant to lend. Just as they will be gaining experience from their time with us, we look forward to learning as much from them.

Getting to know our interns

As each of our interns has been settling into their role, we reached out to them to learn more about their passions, their goals and why they chose EDB specifically.

Haruna Na-Aata, a marketing operations intern from New York, New York told us:  “I couldn't have been placed in a better position in the marketing team! Marketing is what I went to school for. I grew up loving the idea of marketing and creating the best product, as well as collaborating with others to provide solutions to everyday problems.”

When it comes to learning new things, Hannah Stoik of the performance engineering team highlights passions both in and out of the office. “I’m a very curious person. So, consequently, I am passionate about learning new things. I enjoy traveling to gain a better understanding of different cultures, especially through food and music. I have fun trying new cuisine and using it as an inspiration while cooking at home. I'm also fascinated by philosophical literature and how it constantly challenges and adapts my worldview,” she told us.

Something that the intern recruiting team tries to focus on when hiring interns is building a cohort of interns with various education backgrounds and levels. One of our new interns, Jason Liang, in product marketing, began his career in recruiting and sales and recently pivoted to pursue this new career path. Jason shared that “after a successful career in sales/recruitment, I decided to go back to school to transition my career into Product Management. After a practicum in Product Marketing, I was intrigued by this career field. It's rapidly growing, and I'm able to support many teams in an organization. I want to be able to help sales teams make an impact with their clients and identify opportunities for EDB.”

Meanwhile, Miranda Cooper, a professional services intern from Ann Arbor, Michigan explained, “I chose EDB for my summer internship because I was drawn to the opportunity to receive mentorship and professional skill building, alongside an immersive technical experience.” Speaking more on her background, she continued, “Since I am transitioning out of an almost 7 year career in non-profit fundraising operations/CRM management working in Salesforce, I was excited to join a team that enables companies to leverage the open source power of PostgreSQL.”

As those who have followed EDB know, community is of great importance both to the organization and to the broader Postgres project as a whole. We were excited to learn our interns are equally passionate about it. “Community is so important because a strong community is also a strong support system. It is a group of people that are dedicated to not only helping each other succeed, but to helping the company grow,” relates Jennifer Kitchens, a partner engineering intern from Greenville, South Carolina. “Community encourages me to continue to grow in my skills and knowledge. I want to not only see my team succeed, but the company as well. And to me that means being open, honest, welcoming and supportive of all of my teammates.
