EnterpriseDB and Its Partner Lenovo to Promote Postgres for the Enterprise

Date -2015-04-21 Location - BEDFORD, Mass. EnterpriseDB (EDB), the leading worldwide provider of enterprise-class Postgres products and database compatibility solutions, today announced a partnership with Lenovo. The companies will promote the performance gains and cost savings of combining Lenovo’s servers with Postgres Plus Advanced Server from EDB. Both corporations are collaborating on go-to-market plans and working with a global network of mutual reseller partners.

Lenovo’s server offerings span the entire gamut of customer hardware infrastructure and solutions needs - from one-socket personal and SMB environments to eight-socket global enterprise data center environments. Built on Intel Xeon E7 4800/8800 v2 family processors, Lenovo’s X6 enterprise servers provide faster database performance thanks to the latest memory technologies and low latency storage options. Additionally, these servers offer differentiation from other x86 servers in their award-winning unique “lidless” modular design that easily scales from four to eight sockets by reusing swappable Compute-, Storage- and I/O Books from the four-socket chassis in the larger eight-socket chassis.

“The expanding number of processor cores in servers has many businesses facing huge cost increases in licensing for traditional databases when upgrading hardware, prompting many to adopt Postgres Plus,” said Ethan O’Rafferty, Vice President, Alliances and Channels at EnterpriseDB. “Postgres Plus optimizes price-performance for Lenovo customers while taking advantage of X6 servers’ scalability to eight sockets. With its global reach and operational excellence, Lenovo is a powerful partner for EDB.”

The combination of Lenovo server technology and Postgres Plus Advanced Server provides the performance and scalability businesses require to power today’s data-intensive, mission-critical workloads. Postgres Plus from EDB extends open source PostgreSQL with enterprise-class performance, security and manageability enhancements.

“Traditional databases are the most expensive component of the server, operating system and database infrastructure stack needed to run applications. Partnering with EDB for their open source-based Postgres Plus database dramatically reduces our customers’ costs,” said Matt Barkovitiz, Director of Alliances, Enterprise Systems Group, Lenovo. “The combination of Postgres Plus and System x infrastructure optimizes price-performance for our joint customers in their hardware upgrades and expansions, and will help strengthen Lenovo’s position in the global server market.”
