EnterpriseDB Announces New Engineering Chief

Date -2012-09-17 BEDFORD, Mass. – September 17, 2012EnterpriseDB, the leading worldwide provider of PostgreSQL and Oracle database compatibility products and services, today announced Tom Kincaid, who has led global services as a vice president for more than two years, will be returning to his engineering roots by taking over as EnterpriseDB’s vice president of engineering, reporting to CEO Ed Boyajian.

Kincaid previously spent four years as executive director, application platforms at Sun Microsystems before Oracle’s acquisition of Sun. He then was named vice president of software development at Oracle and left there to join EnterpriseDB in July 2010. As head of products and engineering at EnterpriseDB, Kincaid will lead the product design, management and development operations. He will be replacing Karen Tegan Padir, who departs to pursue new interests. Kincaid assumes his new role immediately.

“We’re thrilled for Tom to lead our engineering team, an opportunity that will rely on his depth of experience in the space and brings his inspiration and leadership to our development. As we make this change, it is with mixed emotion that we say goodbye to my good friend Karen, who has made many valuable contributions to the company and we wish her the best,” Boyajian said. “At the same time, Tom’s work in recent years leading customer support, training and services has brought him new insights that will translate into high-impact contributions to our development team.”

Kincaid has been leading customer integrations and training as head of global services and support, a role that pulled from his early career as a support engineer and object database consultant in the mid-1990s at Object Design. He later spent nearly a decade in management roles at Sun and Unica before joining Red Hat. From there, he returned to Sun, working through the acquisition.

“I have enjoyed working closely with our customers and gaining new insight into their challenges and desires for the future direction of Postgres and EnterpriseDB products,” Kincaid said. “I’m looking forward to translating that knowledge into new features and capabilities as head of engineering. EnterpriseDB has entered a major growth phase and we have larger enterprises coming on board, creating new challenges that I look forward to tackling.”
