Customers can seamlessly migrate with confidence to PostgreSQL on HP-UX via EnterpriseDB
BEDFORD, Mass. – May 16, 2011 – EnterpriseDB, the largest independent PostgreSQL open source database company, today announced its commitment to support the HP-UX operating environment on Itanium-based HP Integrity servers. EnterpriseDB will introduce full support for HP-UX via Postgres Plus Advanced Server in June 2011. A beta version is available for download here.
“Organizations want to break free of the trapping of a single database vendor,” said Ed Boyajian, CEO of EnterpriseDB. “We believe clients will continue to require hybrid OS environments which include the scalability, resiliency and security that HP-UX delivers. As a comprehensive Oracle compatibility solution, Postgres Plus Advanced Server provides a proven, scalable, and easy to use alternative to Oracle, while providing significant cost savings. This adds to our already strong support of Linux on HP platforms."
“In today’s business climate, clients running business critical OLTP environments need a robust, database solution that can manage ever-increasing volumes of data,” said Lorraine Bartlett, vice president, worldwide marketing and strategy, Business Critical Systems, HP. “Consistent with HP’s commitment to meet client needs and offer choice, we welcome EnterpriseDB’s Postgres Plus Advanced Server support of HP-UX.”
Postgres Plus Advanced Server technology allows users to migrate applications and data from production Oracle databases to Postgres Plus easily and seamlessly. The solution does not require a re-write of the application and it supports a wide range of use cases. This includes reporting and business intelligence applications as well as most other enterprise applications organizations use to run its business—all at a small fraction of the cost Oracle charges for database licenses and annual maintenance.
