Date -2006-04-24

Latest Version of Enterprise Open Source Database Automatically Imports Schemas, Procedural Logic, and Data from Existing Oracle Databases

NASHVILLE, COLLABORATE 06, Apr. 24, 2006 – EnterpriseDB, the world’s leading enterprise–class, open source database company, announced today at COLLABORATE 06, the industry's largest event for the Oracle user community, the beta release of Update 1 to EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1. Adding to the product's existing ability to run applications written for Oracle, the new release automates the migration of databases from Oracle to EnterpriseDB. Free downloads of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server are available at www.enterprisedb.com

The new product release also adds additional important features, including enhanced security and encryption, native XML support, an improved interactive debugger that adds support for Oracle-style packages, an integrated job scheduler, and support for advanced message queuing.

“EnterpriseDB’s ability to run Oracle applications had already eliminated the biggest hurdle in migrating from Oracle to open source,“ said Andy Astor, chief executive officer of EnterpriseDB. “Our newest version automates the process of migrating the actual data and associated logic contained in the database, making it easier than ever for enterprises seeking the benefits of open source to leverage their existing Oracle investments.“

“Sony Online Entertainment previously selected EnterpriseDB based on our projected cost savings, the strength and commitment of EnterpriseDB’ss support organization, and our ability to re-use the applications we had written for Oracle,“ said Christopher Yates, vice president of technology at Sony Online Entertainment. “The new migration automation capabilities of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server will save us additional time and money by allowing us to complete our migration ahead of schedule.“

COLLABORATE 06: Technology and Applications Forum for the Oracle Community is the year’s largest event for Oracle application users. It is sponsored by the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG), the Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG) and Quest International Users Group. EnterpriseDB will be demonstrating the automated migration capabilities of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server this week at Collaborate 06 in booth #515.
