Jay Eum of TransLink Capital added to EnterpriseDB's Board of Directors

WESTFORD, Mass. - August 31, 2010 - EnterpriseDB, the enterprise Postgres company, today announced that it has received a strategic investment from KT (formerly Korea Telecom) and has accepted venture capital funding from new investment partner TransLink Capital. The new funding will enable EnterpriseDB to expand its product and marketing operations to capitalize on the upheaval in the database market caused by consolidation and an enterprise platform shift to virtualized and cloud infrastructure.

As a result of its recent investment, TransLink Capital's Co-founder and Managing Director Jay Eum has joined EnterpriseDB's Board of Directors. At TransLink Capital, Eum is responsible for the firm's investments in Carbonite, Melodis and XSigo. Previously, he launched the U.S. operations for Samsung Venture Investment Corporation and served as an investment officer with Vertex Management. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University and a master's of science degree in biochemistry and a bachelor's of science degree in chemistry from Seoul National University.

"When making investments, we look for companies that have a proven track record of success and a unique market opportunity, especially in Asia. EnterpriseDB certainly has both," said Jay Eum, co-founder and managing director at TransLink Capital. "The company has built its products on a proven technology and is in a very strong market position as the only true open source alternative to large, expensive proprietary database vendors. The upside for EnterpriseDB is tremendous."

EnterpriseDB, which provides products, services, support and training based on the PostgreSQL open source database project, recently announced the availability of the latest version of its flagship product, Postgres Plus Advanced Server 8.4. In this latest version, EnterpriseDB further advanced the Postgres Plus database with a number of enterprise-class enhancements such as the inclusion of its sixth-generation Oracle compatibility layer.

"We've decided to partner with EnterpriseDB because we share its mission of promoting open source and PostgreSQL solutions that provide freedom from high priced vendor lock-in," said Sang-Hong Lee, executive vice president, Technology Strategy Office of KT. "EnterpriseDB has proven its commitment to providing the market with the most advanced and feature-rich open source-based database solutions."

KT and TransLink Capital join an already impressive list of EnterpriseDB funding partners that includes leading venture capital firms and technology companies such as Valhalla Partners, Charles River Ventures, Volition Capital (formerly Fidelity Ventures), IBM, NTT, Red Hat and Sony.

"In the past year, EnterpriseDB, the PostgreSQL market and community have all undergone unprecedented growth and transformation," said Ed Boyajian, president and CEO of EnterpriseDB. "With the recent funding from KT and TransLink Capital, EnterpriseDB is ideally positioned to take advantage of the accelerating market opportunity for enterprise-class PostgreSQL solutions that free customers from oppressive costs driven by traditional database vendor lock-in. The platform shift to virtualized infrastructure and public or private clouds is also a major catalyst for change in old database strategies."
