Cloud Remote DBA Service Scope:

Pre-engagement Planning

After signing up for the Cloud DBA Services, we will schedule a meeting with your staff and at least 2 principal service managers from EnterpriseDB. This meeting will clearly layout the timing and milestones of service delivery, introduce staff, address any pre-requisites needed prior to service start like remote access, and answer any questions that may arise. If you have a cloud database deployment, we can subsequently begin managing it. Alternatively, based on your requirements, we can create a cloud database environment for you and instruct you how to connect your applications to it.

Onsite Architectural Health Check

If we jointly determine during the pre-engagement planning session that you would benefit from an onsite meeting, a member of our Cloud DBA team will arrange a face-to-face meeting wit one of your designated staff.

Capacity Planning

In the beginning of the engagement we will map the usage and growth metrics of your system. This will allow us to perform a capacity planning projection and to design a capacity plan that will allow you to project your cloud expenses. The plan includes database-level memory usage and growth, as well as concurrent users and expected connection growth to identify needs for load balancing, connection pooling and sharding.

Monitoring and Automation

Once services begin, the Cloud DBA team will install monitoring software and setup automated alerts for critical conditions. We will actively monitor the system and provide regular reports showing growth trends and potential trouble spots requiring attention. Should trouble or an undesirable trend occur, our team will immediately begin troubleshooting the issue and start remediation procedures.

System Maintenance

Your Cloud DBA team will take care of routine tasks like: data backups, testing of backups (and if needed recovery), user and security maintenance, index maintenance, preventing database bloat, setting up test environments, cloning data for development systems, gathering production database statistics, and creating a weekly report of activity, trends, and work items.

Performance Management

Tuning is performed as a result of data collected while monitoring and testing the cloud database servers in conjunction with the business applications. On a continuing basis the team will tune operating system parameters, database parameters, and where possible, individual SQL queries to keep your system at optimal performance.
