Postgres Plus RemoteDBA Service

The RemoteDBA service is a staff augmentation engagement that allows organizations to fill current skill needs and gaps, as well as variable staffing needs to meet critical business requirements and timelines. The program allows you to immediately apply qualified manpower where you need it for either short or long term engagements in a highly cost efficient manner.

Preparation and Execution

A standard RemoteDBA engagement is composed of two phases. The first phase is an on-site preparatory visit by the RemoteDBA staffer to your site. This phase is designed to make the second and longer off-site phase operate as smoothly as possible. The first phase is characterized by a one time on-site pre-engagement visit by the RemoteDBA who will:

  • Establish direct contact with the customer's stakeholders
  • Resolve logistics for issues like systems access and regular communications
  • Familiarize them self with the customer's database environment, internal systems, and procedures
  • Define a backup and recovery strategy and perform an initial backup
  • Establish an ongoing prioritized work list

We Become Part of the Team

The RemoteDBA operates as an integral part of your technology organization performing as a Full Time Equivalent employee (8 hour day) under your direction.

Phone and email communication are standard and optionally, video conferencing can be arranged. You will also receive daily project logs from the RemoteDBA, and issue escalation will be to your manager as well as an EnterpriseDB manager.

During the second phase of the engagement, your RemoteDBA team member begins the off-site work period where he provides these deliverables:

  • Performs regular backups of databases
  • Performs regular maintenance on databases (e.g. Vacuum)
  • Develops and implements backup / restore and disaster recovery protocols
  • Implements an auto-vacuum strategy
  • Assists in a data center migration
  • Monitors databases and notifies stakeholders as operational thresholds are reached
  • Performs pro-active remediation of operational problems
  • Performs query tuning
  • Performs preventative maintenance
  • Provides daily summaries of activities and observations by email to the customer's project manager,
  • Participates in a regularly scheduled weekly status call at a time that is mutually acceptable to both customer and EnterpriseDB
  • Performs issue escalation through the customer and EnterpriseDB designated project managers.

Note: Utilizing the RemoteDBA service is not the same as, or inclusive of, Subscription Support. If you do NOT have a subscription for the product, you will not receive web-based case management, telephone support from our regular support staff and engineers, guaranteed response times, 24/7 support, bug hot fixes, or product warranties.
