Gartner recently published its definitive guide to Database Platforms as a Service (dbPaaS) with lots of great advice, 19 vendor profiles including AWS, Oracle, MongoDB, and the EDB Postgres Cloud Database Service (CDS), as well as EDB Postgres Ark.
In this report, Gartner predicts, “By 2023, 75% of all databases will be on a cloud platform” and says the days are over for concerns about security and data sovereignty with deployments in the cloud that are more secure than most (if not all) of those on-premises. The report also says, “Data and analytics leaders focused on data management strategies should now consider dbPaaS to address all use cases.
The EDB Cloud Database Service, released in November, includes Oracle compatibility features, along with enterprise-ready features – like automatic failover, high-availability clusters and encryption – with a pay-as-you-go monthly payment model. EDB Ark is for hybrid cloud deployments of Postgres providing the ability to control and manage deployments across multiple public and private clouds from a single management console. With EDB, you have no worries about lock-in; you get the same Postgres whether it’s on AWS, your data center or in the cloud.
