EnterpriseDB - Guidelines for Using EnterpriseDB Trademarks

Hundreds of customers around the world recognize and select EnterpriseDB solutions on the basis of the company's trademarks and service marks, which signify high-quality computer software products and services. Whichithout these trademarks and service marks (collectively referred to as "trademarks"), consumers would not be able to distinguish EnterpriseDB solutions from those of other companies, nor would they be able to readily identify the superior quality that EnterpriseDB trademarks represent. Therefore, it is critically important that trademarks of EnterpriseDB and its subsidiaries are protected.

You must carefully consider EnterpriseDB's trademark usage guidelines when mentioning EnterpriseDB offerings in your materials or in connection with your own products or product names. You must always make a clear and unambiguous distinction between your own solutions, products, and/or services and the EnterpriseDB offerings mentioned.

EnterpriseDB accepts no responsibility for any violation of legal regulations regarding competition or trademarks by partners. In addition to these guidelines, country-specific regulations may apply.

Proper Use of Trademarks

Unregistered or pending trademarks bear the ™ symbol. Registered trademarks carry the ® symbol. A selection of EnterpriseDB trademarks, both registered and pending, as well as a selection of EnterpriseDB offering names, are listed below. Please use these names and their symbols according to the guidelines that follow.

The only use that does not require the symbols is a Web application or other onscreen presentation where the low resolution of the medium renders the symbol illegible. However, in such case please attribute EnterpriseDB trademarks used in this fashion on the attribution page of the application or presentation in accordance with the "Trademark Attribution" section of these guidelines.

To ensure correct use of EnterpriseDB trademarks, follow these guidelines:

  • Always refer to a trademark using the correct spelling with the correct capitalization. Do not alter the trademark in any way.
For example, it is incorrect to say "enterprisedb® software" and "Postgresplus® database." It is correct to say "EnterpriseDB® software" and " Postgres Plus® database." See the trademark list for correct spelling and capitalization.
  • Always use a trademark as a proper adjective, not a noun.
For example, it is incorrect to say "You can use EnterpriseDB to manage your enterprise data." It is correct to say "You can use EnterpriseDB® solutions to manage your enterprise data."
  • Use a trademark as a proper adjective followed by a common noun descriptor.
An example of a common-noun descriptor is "software." Examples of correct use are "EnterpriseDB® software" and "Postgres Plus® database." Always use an appropriate descriptor.
  • Include the appropriate symbol - ™ or ® - representing the trademark status.
If repeated inclusion of the ™ or ® symbol is awkward or impractical, at a minimum you must include the symbol and the common-noun descriptor upon the first use of the trademark in the title (if the name appears in the title) and also in the text. Subsequent to this initial use, the symbol and descriptor need not appear with the name.
  • The registered trademark on "EnterpriseDB" applies to all goods or services delivered by EnterpriseDB - anything you can obtain from EnterpriseDB.
Therefore you say EnterpriseDB® software, EnterpriseDB® solution, EnterpriseDB® database, and so on.
  • Do not use a trademark in possessive form.
For example, it is incorrect to say "EnterpriseDB®'s software". It is correct to "EnterpriseDB® software"
  • Do not use a trademark in plural form.
For example, it is incorrect to say "The company had three Postgres Plus®s." It is correct to say "The company had three applications running Postgres Plus®."
  • When referring to the EnterpriseDB corporate entity rather than the EnterpriseDB brand, trademark rules do not apply.
That is, you do not use the ® symbol in statements such as "EnterpriseDB announced today," "EnterpriseDB provides solutions to customers," and "the EnterpriseDB development team." Similarly, you can use the possessive form "EnterpriseDB's" when referring to the company, not to the brand. For example, you may say "EnterpriseDB's vision" and "EnterpriseDB's years of experience."

Trademark Attribution

In any material that mentions any EnterpriseDB trademark, you must include the correct attribution statement based on the following:

"<ENTERPRISEDB TRADEMARKS> is/are the trademark(s) or registered trademark(s) of EnterpriseDB Corporation in the USA and in several other countries."

In your attribution statement, replace the placeholder phrase <ENTERPRISEDB TRADEMARKS> with the names of the EnterpriseDB trademarks mentioned in your material. Place the statement either on the copyright page (which may be the case in a brochure) or at the end of a material if it has no copyright page (in an advertisement or a press release, for example).

If after reviewing the above Guidelines for Using EnterpriseDB Trademarks you still have a question about use, please direct your inquiry to trademarks@enterprisedb.com. EnterpriseDB will make reasonable efforts to respond to your request. However, based on volume of requests you should allow several weeks for a response. In the absence of a response, the Guidelines for Using EnterpriseDB Trademarks shall govern any and all uses.

Designing Marketing Material

If you are a developer, partner, customer, or other third party, always use your own proprietary design style when creating and producing a marketing piece. You must not copy the EnterpriseDB design style or borrow any EnterpriseDB design elements.

Guidelines for Using EnterpriseDB-Copyrighted Material

The use of original texts, graphics, images, screen shots, and other materials from EnterpriseDB sources must be approved by EnterpriseDB. In addition, when using such materials, you must include a copyright notice - either in an adjacent area or as a footnote - to indicate EnterpriseDB's copyright. The copyright should read as follows:

"© EnterpriseDB Corporation <year>. All rights reserved."
