EnterpriseDB Launches Postgres Plus Certification Program
Program Sets the Global Standard for Commercial PostgreSQL Certification; Three Levels of Certification Available for Developers and DBAs
PORTLAND, Ore., O'REILLY OPEN SOURCE CONVENTION, Jul. 22, 2008 - EnterpriseDB, the leading enterprise open source database company, today announced the Postgres Plus Certification Program, which provides training, assessment, and certification for database professionals on the PostgreSQL and Postgres Plus platforms. The program offers separate tracks for developers and DBAs, focusing on the particular expertise and job skills required by each position. For each track, three levels of certification are available: Postgres Plus Certified Associate, Postgres Plus Certified Professional, and Postgres Plus Certified Master. Certification is awarded to those receiving a passing score on EnterpriseDB's certification exam. Three- and four-day preparation classes are available prior to each exam. Postgres Plus Certified Associate
EnterpriseDB's first level of certification, Postgres Plus Certified Associate (PPCA), requires that a database professional demonstrate the fundamental skills necessary to maintain a PostgreSQL server and application in a production environment. The associated training class, Introduction to Postgres Plus Administration, covers the fundamental concepts and skills required to install, configure, and maintain the database, including installation, monitoring, and performance tuning; backup management and recovery procedures; strategies for high availability; table spaces and partitioning; routine maintenance; and the use of SQL and PL/pgSQL to create database queries.
Postgres Plus Certified Professional
The next certification level, Postgres Plus Certified Professional (PPCP), is the definitive standard for PostgreSQL professionals. PPCPs will have demonstrated an advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL's internal mechanisms, including the ability to work in demanding, large-scale, real-world production environments. This certification requires two exams, each with a corresponding training class. The Advanced Postgres Plus Administration exam covers theoretical and practical topics, including replication, advanced database security, disaster recovery, table partitioning, high availability, spatial data, and full-text data. The second exam is the Postgres Plus Performance and Scalability exam, which covers query tuning, performance monitoring, distributed parallel query (GridSQL), distributed memory caching, integrated connection management, and index management.
Postgres Plus Certified Master
EnterpriseDB will soon offer a third level of certification, Postgres Plus Certified Master (PPCM), for elite-level professionals seeking to demonstrate the deepest internal knowledge of PostgreSQL and ancillary Postgres Plus components in the context of a highly available and secure enterprise environment. Postgres Plus Certified Master candidates must pass three examinations to receive this certification: Postgres Plus High Availability, Postgres Plus Security, and PostgreSQL Internals. Exam preparation classes will be available for each exam.
