Hybrid Manager 2026.10.1 release notes Innovation Release

Every Postgres cluster restarts during this upgrade

This release bumps the Barman Cloud Plugin, which restarts every Postgres cluster in your estate as part of applying the HM upgrade — not on your own database maintenance schedule. If you manage a large estate and rely on scheduling platform and Postgres upgrades independently, plan for this before you upgrade.

This Innovation Release includes features and enhancements.

Release date: 15 Oct 2026

Release cadence

HM now follows a dual release strategy: LTS and Innovation Releases. For details on this model, see Hybrid Manager (HM) dual release strategy.

Release highlights

  • New ClickHouse-backed observability stack: HM now ships with an embedded ClickHouse deployment, enabled automatically as part of the observability scenario, with no separate installation or configuration required. Query Diagnostics (Query Stats, List Queries, Query Executed, Query Latency, and Wait States) now reads from ClickHouse instead of Postgres, with the pg_stat_ch extension automatically enabled for supported PSR and PGD clusters and Kubernetes events now ingested into ClickHouse through the OpenTelemetry collector. The edb_stat_monitor extension is retained for now and continues to be used internally. However, it's scheduled for removal in a future release.

  • Barman Cloud Plugin update: The Barman Cloud Plugin is updated to version 0.15.0, bringing significantly faster restore times for compressed backups. Because this version bump changes the plugin's sidecar image, upgrading to HM 2026.10 restarts every Postgres cluster in your estate.

  • AI DDL repair in Migration Portal: Migration Portal in HM can now automatically suggest a fix for a DDL object that fails schema assessment. Review the suggestion and Accept & Reassess, Edit, Regenerate, or Reject it. Requires AI Copilot to be enabled.

HM 2026.10 ships operandSet 1.3.0

HM 2026.10 ships operand images from operandSet 1.3.0. If your operandSetVersions configuration is still pinned to an earlier operand set (for example, 1\.2\.[0-9]+ from IRs 2026.7-2026.9), add 1\.3\.[0-9]+ to the whitelist alongside it — don't replace it yet. Removing the 1\.2\.[0-9]+ pattern before every cluster has moved to a 1.3.x operand image makes those clusters' current images undiscoverable and breaks the Major/Minor upgrade dialog. Once every cluster in your estate is running a 1.3.x operand image, you can remove the old regex. See Configure the beacon agent operand set for details.

Release details

Hybrid Manager (HM) platform

TypeDescription
ChangeUpdated the Barman Cloud Plugin to version 0.15.0, which includes significantly faster restore times for compressed backups. Upgrading to this version triggers a restart of your Postgres clusters.
Bug fixFixed an issue whereby uninstalling Hybrid Manager could leave the edb-observability namespace and its associated persistent volume claims behind, which caused a subsequent reinstall on the same cluster to fail preflight checks with an orphaned PVC error.
Bug fixFixed an issue whereby image discovery failed with a 404 error for registries whose configured URL included a namespace path, such as EDB's official artifact repo. Previously, the registry client built an incorrect API path for these registries, resulting in an empty image library and preventing provisioning and upgrades. The registry client now correctly scopes the catalog path under the registry's namespace, restoring discovery for both namespace-path and bare-host registries.

Observability and monitoring

TypeDescription
EnhancementAdded support for automatically enabling the pg_stat_ch extension for PSR and PGD clusters when it's available in the Postgres image, allowing supported clusters to collect and stream additional query statistics to the new ClickHouse-backed observability stack.
EnhancementQuery diagnostics, including wait state statistics, now run on a ClickHouse-backed data path for improved performance and scalability. This improvement enables richer wait-event sampling and more detailed query-diagnostics charts and drill-downs.
EnhancementAdded support for ingesting Kubernetes events into ClickHouse through the OpenTelemetry collector. Log entries in otel_logs are now tagged with a log_source resource attribute (k8s_event or k8s_pod) so you can distinguish and query or alert on Kubernetes events separately from pod logs.
ChangeMigrated Query Diagnostics (Query Stats, List Queries, Query Executed, Query Latency, Wait States) to a new, embedded ClickHouse-backed pipeline that's deployed and managed automatically, with no separate installation or configuration required. Query and wait-state data now reach the platform through OTLP ingestion of pg_stat_ch and edb_wait_states. The stats-collector service and database are no longer deployed. edb_stat_monitor is retained and will be removed in a future release.
ChangeConfiguration and security recommendations in the health report are now generated by an in-process daemon instead of periodic background jobs, improving reliability. This change doesn't affect how recommendations appear in the health report.
ChangeAlerting and recording rule management for metrics and logging is consolidated into a new upm-ruler component, replacing the separate Thanos Ruler and Loki Ruler. These components are disabled by default in the observability scenario; enable by setting the component's enabled parameter to true.
ChangeRemoved the query latency chart from the Monitoring overview. Query latency data is still available in Query Diagnostics.
Bug fixFixed an issue whereby the InternalDBPrimaryServiceUnavailable alert fired constantly because it referenced the removed upm-api-stats-collector component. Alert rules and references related to this component were removed from monitoring configuration.
Bug fixFixed an issue whereby the edb_wait_states and query latency monitoring queries failed with a function does not exist error on CloudNativePG (CNPG) clusters that pin the database search path for security reasons, which caused repeated errors in database logs and loss of related metrics.
Bug fixFixed an issue whereby fluent-bit-federated and thanos-query-federated pods could crash-loop on multi-data-center deployments when the SPIFFE SVID or mTLS certificate wasn't yet available at startup. Both workloads now wait for the certificate to be present before starting.
Query Diagnostics after this upgrade
  • Existing HM-managed clusters: The new operand image ships with pg_stat_ch available, but moving an existing cluster to it doesn't automatically create the extension. Manually run CREATE EXTENSION IF NOT EXISTS pg_stat_ch WITH SCHEMA edb_internals; on every database you want to monitor.
  • Self-managed clusters (external CloudNativePG or bare-metal installations): Require additional manual steps to install and enable pg_stat_ch. See Installing and configuring pg_stat_ch.
  • Query table: Temporarily shows query text capped at 2 KB, can't be filtered by table name, and no longer shows the new label for recently seen queries. These will be addressed in a future release.

AI Factory

TypeDescription
ChangeRemoved the ai scenario and the components that depend on it — Langflow, Visual Pipeline Builder (AI Pipelines), KServe-based model serving (self-hosted models), and the HM chatbot — to address critical security vulnerabilities in Langflow. Langflow and Visual Pipeline Builder are permanently removed. The HM chatbot and support for external LLM endpoints are expected to return in a future Innovation Release and the next LTS release.

Migrations

TypeDescription
EnhancementAdded AI DDL repair to Migration Portal in HM. When a DDL object fails schema assessment, Migration Portal can automatically suggest a fix that you can accept, edit, regenerate, or reject. Requires AI Copilot to be enabled. See AI DDL repair for details.
EnhancementAdded a new repair handler, ERH-3018, which converts the Oracle keyword JOIN to the quoted lowercase name "join" when it's used unquoted as a name, for example, as a column, parameter type, table alias, or object type attribute. JOIN is a reserved keyword in EDB Postgres Advanced Server, so this DDL previously failed with a syntax error.
EnhancementAdded a new repair handler, ERH-3019, which removes the Oracle FM (fill mode) modifier from the format string of a TRUNC date function, for example, TRUNC(hire_date, 'fmmm') becomes TRUNC(hire_date, 'mm'). Oracle ignores the FM modifier in TRUNC date format strings, but EDB Postgres Advanced Server rejects it with an invalid format parameter error. For a functional index, the error occurs on the first insert or index rebuild rather than when the index is created.
