Date -2011-04-19 EnterpriseDB and Amazon Web Services combine to help reduce database costs
BEDFORD, Mass. – April 19, 2011 – EnterpriseDB, the leading worldwide provider of PostgreSQL products and services, today announced that Aquent, a leading international marketing services company, has achieved significant cost savings since switching its production database to EnterpriseDB.
Aquent realized that a large portion of its IT spend was focused on maintaining the company’s three independent data centers in the United States, Europe and Asia. Additionally, local offices often needed to access information and resources from those data centers regardless of location.
To address data accessibility and keep the databases in sync, Aquent decided to move to a database replication approach and chose to replace its existing Sybase database with EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server. Aquent selected EnterpriseDB based on its well-known replication feature set, open-source heritage, company focus, and exceptional value. Additionally, Aquent also chose to implement Amazon Web Services in conjunction with EnterpriseDB to run resource management systems in the cloud.
“Aquent needed database replication at the lowest possible cost to ensure users’ access to the company’s global servers in one application,” said Robin Schumacher, director of product strategy, EnterpriseDB. "Postgres Plus provides Aquent with a high-performance, scalable and cost-effective database that is not only backed up by the finest service and support available but offers an easier approach to moving data to the cloud.”
Throughout the implementation, EnterpriseDB and partner Distributed Logic provided support and services. When specific replication enhancements were required, EnterpriseDB was able to deliver them and contribute them back to the PostgreSQL community.
“The performance of the Postgres Plus Advanced Server has given us a significant advantage in our IT spend,” said Larry Bolick, CIO, Aquent. “We have been able to save close to $100,000 per year since introducing EnterpriseDB into our environment. EnterpriseDB proved that Postgres Plus Advanced Server with replication is an effective and affordable solution for our global database needs.”
