EnterpriseDB and PostgreSQL 9.0 change the economics of the relational database market
SAN FRANCISCO (from JavaOne) – Sept. 20, 2010 - EnterpriseDB, the enterprise Postgres company, today announced support for the newly released PostgreSQL 9.0 open source relational database. EnterpriseDB’s Postgres Plus™ line of products enables enterprises to use PostgreSQL rather than expensive proprietary databases from Oracle and other vendors. EnterpriseDB customers and PostgreSQL community members can immediately benefit from EnterpriseDB’s one-click installer for PostgreSQL 9.0.

- Built-in replication and hot standby capabilities – PostgreSQL 9.0 has the high availability required for the “scale-out” and failover architectures that characterize cloud computing and other demanding application environments.
- 64-bit Windows support – Enterprise data centers using Windows 64-bit platforms will find PostgreSQL 9.0 the ideal open source database solution for this fast growth platform.
- “In-place” upgrade capability – PostgreSQL 9.0 greatly simplifies major upgrades by removing the need for the “dump/load data” procedure required in prior versions and instead performs an in-place upgrade, which is much easier and faster.

- Postgres Plus for new projects. The economics of open source database software are compelling: greatly simplified licensing models, no license fees and vendor independence. - Postgres Plus to augment the incumbent database. Both allow enterprises to create business intelligence and reporting architectures at a fraction of the cost of commercial database vendors’ solutions.
