Major Customer Wins, Prestigious Awards, Venture Capital Financing, PostgreSQL Community Support, Innovative Product Releases, and All-Star Executive Team Among Highlights

ISELIN, N.J., Jan. 9, 2007 – EnterpriseDB, maker of the world’s most affordable enterprise-class database, announced today the company's 2006 results. In 2006, the company’s first year as a revenue-generating company, EnterpriseDB exceeded its highly ambitious sales plan, booking millions of dollars in software license sales. The company’s other noteworthy 2006 achievements included important customer wins, the receipt of prestigious industry awards, a $20 million financing, the establishment of the EnterpriseDB PostgreSQL Development Fund, new product introductions, and the recruitment of an executive team of accomplished industry veterans.

More Than 100 Customers and Partners Signed

Leading companies, including Sony Online Entertainment and Vonage, selected the EnterpriseDB Advanced Server relational database management system (RDBMS) for its enterprise-class performance and stability, its ability to run applications written for Oracle, its suitability for replacing MySQL, and its affordability. In addition, Sun Microsystems, which distributes the open source PostgreSQL database on which EnterpriseDB is based, selected EnterpriseDB for its PostgreSQL support and training.

“The word is out: EnterpriseDB’s compelling combination of database features, performance, and value is fueling a database renaissance in enterprise IT organizations,“ said Andy Astor, chief executive officer of EnterpriseDB. “Our outstanding growth is evidence of the heightened demand for low-cost, enterprise-class database alternatives and the positive effects of an open source economy. This is particularly true in organizations with significant investments in Oracle software and Oracle-trained personnel. 2006 exceeded our expectations on all fronts, and we are well-positioned to continue this trajectory in 2007.“

Critical Acclaim

EnterpriseDB’s Oracle-compatible database received several prestigious industry awards in 2006. At the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco, EnterpriseDB Advanced Server garnered the Best Database award for the second consecutive year. The company was also named to the Red Herring 100 list and to AlwaysOn's AO100 list and was a finalist for both the CODiE and Jolt awards.

$20 Million Financing

In August, 2006, EnterpriseDB closed a $20 million financing led by Fidelity Ventures. Previous investors Charles River Ventures and Valhalla Partners also participated in the round. In connection with the investment, Fidelity partner Dave Power became a member of EnterpriseDB's board of directors.

PostgreSQL Community Support

At the PostgreSQL Anniversary Summit held in July, EnterpriseDB announced the establishment of the EnterpriseDB PostgreSQL Development Fund, which is used to sponsor development of PostgreSQL features and enhancements. The company made an initial contribution of $25,000 to the fund, and sponsored projects are already underway. EnterpriseDB also makes a practice of hiring important PostgreSQL contributors to ensure their continued ability to participate in the PostgreSQL community. Bruce Momjian and Dave Page, two of the seven-member PostgreSQL Core Team, joined the company in 2006, as did PostgreSQL performance expert Simon Riggs and noted PostgreSQL author Korry Douglas.

Innovative New Products

In April, EnterpriseDB Advanced Server’s ability to run applications written for Oracle was augmented with features that automate the transfer of data and logic from existing Oracle databases to EnterpriseDB. In August, the company announced the initial availability of EnterpriseDB Replication Server, which replicates data across Oracle, EnterpriseDB, and PostgreSQL databases in near-real-time to meet a wide array of business challenges, including low-cost reporting and disaster recovery.

Company Leadership

Former webMethods chairman and chief executive officer Phillip Merrick was elected chairman of EnterpriseDB's board of directors in February. Later in the year, industry veteran Dave Litwack joined the company’s board. The company also added Garland Hall as its chief customer officer, Helen Donnelly as its senior vice president, marketing, Phil Weber as its vice president, human resources, and Roger Durn as its general manager, Asia Pacific region.
