Innovative New Products and Services
In 2008, EnterpriseDB continued to bring innovative, industry-leading products to market. In March, the company introduced the Postgres Plus product family, which includes Postgres Plus Standard Server and Postgres Plus Advanced Server. The Postgres Plus product family enhances the core PostgreSQL open source offering, adding key components and features demanded by commercial production customers while maintaining tight synchronization with the community project. These enhancements are bundled in a package that is easy to install, integrate, and manage and backed by enterprise-class warranties, indemnification, and 24x7 support.
EnterpriseDB also made a suite of packaged services available, including the Architectural Health Check, Remote DBA, High Availability Setup, Partitioning Setup, and Replication Setup services. Each service implements EnterpriseDB's proven best practices for deploying and maintaining PostgreSQL or Postgres Plus databases.
Industry Accolades
In early 2008, EnterpriseDB was named one of Linux Magazine's "Top 20 companies to watch in 2008," and LinuxWorld Magazine named EnterpriseDB co-founder Andy Astor one of the "Top leaders in open source business." EnterpriseDB continued to win recognition throughout the year, including a Jolt Productivity Award and a place on the SD Times 100. NJBIZ also named EnterpriseDB the "Emerging Business of the Year."

In 2008, EnterpriseDB sponsored significant code contributions, including a high-speed full-text search feature and "Heap-Only Tuples" (HOT), a performance-improving feature that significantly increases the database's performance over long periods of time in update-intensive OLTP applications. The company also played the lead community sponsorship role for NTT's contribution of synchronous replication, a critical new high-availability technology.
$16M Series C Financing
In March, EnterpriseDB announced a $10 million Series C round of venture capital financing, which included a strategic investment from IBM in addition to investments from previous investors Charles River Ventures, Fidelity Ventures, and Valhalla Partners. In October, EnterpriseDB raised an additional $6 million in Series C funds, which included a strategic investment by NTT.
New Company Leadership
Ed Boyajian, formerly vice president and general manager, North American sales, at Red Hat, joined EnterpriseDB as the company's new chief executive officer in June. Boyajian is leading EnterpriseDB into its next phase of growth by driving revenue and building the EnterpriseDB brand. In addition, veteran industry executive Fred Holahan joined EnterpriseDB as vice president of marketing.
"With the launches of a new product family and a suite of packaged services, new financing and leadership, and continued industry recognition, 2008 was a year of many milestones," said Boyajian. "Given the current economic challenges and the increasing acceptance of open source databases, I expect to see even greater success for EnterpriseDB in 2009 and beyond."
