Expands Team with Executives from Red Hat and State Street
OPEN SOURCE BUSINESS CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 14, 2006 – EnterpriseDB, the world’s leading enterprise-class, open source database company, announced today at the Open Source Business Conference that board member Phillip Merrick, formerly Chairman and CEO of webMethods, has been elected Chairman of the Board. The company also announced that Bill Mason, formerly of open source pioneer Red Hat, has joined the company as vice president of business development and that Faiz Husain, formerly of financial services giant State Street Corporation, has joined the company as vice president of product development. Until October 2004, Phillip Merrick was the Chairman and CEO of webMethods, Inc., which he co-founded in 1996. Under his leadership, the company demonstrated the best revenue growth of any U.S. software company between 1997 and 2002 and conducted the then-most-successful software IPO ever in February 2000. “Enterprises are moving their IT infrastructures to open source components at an increasingly rapid rate, and enterprise-class open source databases are poised to play a major role in this transformation,” said Phillip Merrick.
Bill Mason was previously a senior director at Red Hat, where he was responsible for product management, OEM sales and strategic global fulfillment during his four-year tenure. Prior to Red Hat, Bill held leadership positions in early-stage start-ups, focused on both supply chain event and syndicated e-commerce catalogue management. Bill also spent five years in Novell’s Netware Products Division, where he was responsible for product line management, partner marketing and strategic alliances.
Faiz Husain was previously a vice president in the IT Strategy & Governance group at State Street Corporation. While at State Street, Faiz was responsible for managing technology operations for the Investment Management Solutions division, development of a middle-office trade workflow system and Infrastructure enablement of IT globalization projects. Prior to State Street, Faiz spent twelve years leading development teams at several software companies, including Princeton Financial Systems, Datalogix International and Magna Software.
EnterpriseDB’s former Chairman, Denis Lussier, will remain a member of the board of directors and also the company’s chief technology officer.
