Enterprise Open Source Database Takes Top Honor, Besting Oracle, Others

SAN FRANCISCO, LINUXWORLD CONFERENCE AND EXPO, Aug. 17, 2006 – EnterpriseDB, the world’s leading enterprise, open source database company, announced today that, for the second consecutive year, EnterpriseDB Advanced Server, the company’s flagship product, has won the Linux Journal Product Excellence Award at LinuxWorld in the Best Database Solution category. Representatives of Linux Journal and the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo® presented the award yesterday morning at the show. More information and free downloads of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server are available at www.enterprisedb.com.

“We are very excited that, for the second year running, EnterpriseDB has won the Best Database Solution award at LinuxWorld,“ said Andy Astor, chief executive officer, EnterpriseDB. “EnterpriseDB is combining the power of open source software with continuous technical innovation to enable enterprise database customers to break away from Oracle. We’re gratified that the LinuxWorld judges have recognized our unique potential to disrupt the long-standing enterprise database oligopoly.“

About EnterpriseDB Advanced Server

EnterpriseDB Advanced Server is an enterprise-class relational database management system (RDBMS) that is compatible with applications written for Oracle. EnterpriseDB Advanced Server is based on PostgreSQL, the world’s most advanced open source database, ensuring the world-class data integrity, security, and performance necessary for enterprise environments. In addition, the total cost of ownership (TCO) of an enterprise database solution powered by EnterpriseDB Advanced Server is only a small fraction of the TCO of a comparable Oracle-powered solution.

Earlier this week at LinuxWorld, the company made three significant announcements:

  • The general availability of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1 Release 2, which features automated migration of data and business logic from Oracle databases to EnterpriseDB Advanced Server, integrated Oracle database browsing, sophisticated security features and other enhancements to the EnterpriseDB Database Server, and new tools for developers and DBAs.
  • The release of EnterpriseDB Replication Server, which replicates data across the enterprise in near real time to meet a wide array of business challenges. Replication Server can replicate data to or from any supported database, including Oracle, EnterpriseDB, and PostgreSQL, and across heterogeneous databases, distant geographies, complex enterprise data infrastructures, and heterogeneous operating platforms, including Linux, Solaris, Windows, and Mac OS X.
  • The launch of EnterpriseDB Network, a new service that includes real-time notification and delivery of product updates and patches, access to EnterpriseDB online forums, and enhanced product documentation. EnterpriseDB Network subscribers also receive exclusive access to many advanced features of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server.

EnterpriseDB will be demonstrating EnterpriseDB Advanced Server at LinuxWorld in booth #1302.
