Date -2017-10-23 Location - LONDON Members of EDB’s executive ranks as well as several engineers will deliver training sessions, presentations, and a keynote address during the event, which runs October 24-27, at the Warsaw Marriott Hotel in Poland.
EDB is a major supporter of the PostgreSQL project, including events like the PostgreSQL Conference Europe (PGConf.EU) that foster greater awareness of PostgreSQL and end user education. Such forums provide Postgres users with opportunities to expand their skills during extended training and conference sessions. They further enable community members to network, collaborate on emerging use cases and share best practices.
Some of the EDB engineers who are presenting are also leaders in the PostgreSQL community. They include:
- Dave Page, Vice President and Chief Architect, Tools and Installers, is a member of the PostgreSQL Global Development Group Core Team. He is a member of PostgreSQL Europe board of directors as well as a member of the organizing committee for PostgreSQL Conference Europe 2017. Page will deliver the event’s closing remarks on Friday, Oct. 27, at 4:15 pm, titled So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish.
- Bruce Momjian, Senior Database Architect, is a Core Team Member of the PostgreSQL Global Development Group. Momjian will present a training on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 9 am to 12:30 pm, titled Mastering PostgreSQL Administration. At 3:40 pm on Thursday, Oct. 26, Momjian will deliver a presentation titled Postgres Window Magic at 3:40 pm. He will explain using window function facilities to produce optimal SQL query results.
- Robert Haas, Vice President and Chief Database Architect, who is recognized as a Major Contributor to the PostgreSQL project, will lead a training on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 9 am to 12:30 pm titled The PostgreSQL Query Planner. On Wednesday, Oct. 25, Haas will deliver a presentation titled Everything Wrong with Partitioning in PostgreSQL 10 at 3 pm. His talk will emphasize the known challenges with partitioning in PostgreSQL to highlight opportunities for improvement in future releases.

Thursday, Oct. 26
Andres Freund, Senior Database Architect, will deliver a presentation titled Improving Postgres’ Efficiency at 9:30 am. Freund will explore how PostgreSQL development could improve the ability of PostgreSQL to utilize cores more efficiently and the techniques and workloads most impacted.
Jan Karremans, Senior Sales Engineer, will participate in a joint presentation titled What Happens When More than 30 Years of Oracle Experience Hit PostgreSQL at 10:30 am. Karremans will discuss the common challenges Oracle DBAs face when transitioning to PostgreSQL. He will be joined by Daniel Westermann, Senior Consultant and Technology Leader Open Infrastructure at DBI-Services, an EDB partner in Switzerland.
Friday, Oct. 27
Devrim Gündüz, Principal Systems Engineer, will deliver a presentation titled Scale Your PostgreSQL at 1:40 pm. During his talk, Gündüz will cover the options for scaling vertically and horizontally in PostgreSQL, both built-in and third-party.
Marc Linster, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Product Development, will deliver a keynote address on Friday titled Postgres in a World of DevOps at 3:50 pm. Linster will explain how PostgreSQL occupies a pivotal position in the datacenter, supporting traditional architectures as well as more flexible configurations that support DevOps motion.
