EDISON, N.J., August 05, 2005 –EnterpriseDB Corporation, an enterprise database company, announced today that the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo has named the company’s flagship product, EnterpriseDB 2005, a finalist for the LinuxWorld Product Excellence Award in the "Best Database Solution" category. EnterpriseDB 2005 is an enterprise-class database that is based on PostgreSQL, the world’s most advanced open source database. EnterpriseDB 2005 is compatible with many applications written for Oracle databases, and it provides reliability and performance under update-intensive workloads that are far superior to other popular open source databases. More information and EnterpriseDB 2005 downloads are available on the company’s website at www.enterprisedb.com.
"We are pleased and honored that EnterpriseDB 2005 — which was introduced just 10 weeks ago — has been selected as a finalist for this award," said Andy Astor, EnterpriseDB’s CEO. "We’ve significantly enhanced PostgreSQL, including in the areas of Oracle compatibility, reliability and scalability, to create an enterprise-class product that can be aggressively priced. It’s gratifying that our efforts have been recognized so soon."
EnterpriseDB 2005 joins enterprise-class database products from Oracle and IBM as finalists in the "Best Database Solution" category. A package of software, support and services from MySQL was also named to the category. The winner of the category will be selected based on price performance, conformation to standards, supported platforms, data storage efficiency, usability and ease of data backup.
The LinuxWorld Product Excellence Awards are judged by a group of respected industry experts managed by LinuxWorld Magazine. Winners will be announced in a ceremony at LinuxWorld on Tuesday, August 9 at 4:30 p.m.
About EnterpriseDB 2005
EnterpriseDB Corporation enhanced PostgreSQL, the world’s most advanced open source database, to create EnterpriseDB 2005. EnterpriseDB 2005 delivers enterprise-compatibility, Oracle-compatibility and budget-compatibility—in short, EnterpriseDB 2005 is "business compatible".
Enterprise compatibility means that EnterpriseDB 2005 runs significantly faster than most other databases, including MySQL, in typical transactional applications and that it is robust and reliable, as its record-low defect rate — 100 times less than average commercial software — demonstrates. Oracle compatibility means that many applications written for Oracle will run unmodified on EnterpriseDB 2005. Budget compatibility means that EnterpriseDB 2005’s will be priced to reflect its open source heritage, with linear, per-CPU pricing structure that will be economical for deployments of all sizes.
EnterpriseDB 2005 includes EnterpriseDB Database Server, the RDBMS engine, EnterpriseDB Studio, a console for developers and DBAs, and EnterpriseDB Connectors, which provide access to EnterpriseDB 2005 from JDBC, ODBC, .NET, ESQL/C++, PHP, Perl and Python.
EnterpriseDB Corporation will be demonstrating EnterpriseDB 2005 in booth #552 at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo, August 8–11 in San Francisco. EnterpriseDB has donated space in its booth to enable the PostgreSQL community to have a presence at the show, and community representatives will be available in the booth throughout the show.
