Date -2010-07-26 EnterpriseDB Adds Former JBoss and SpringSource Executive Rob Bearden to its Board of Directors
Industry veteran brings expertise in elevating successful open source and enterprise software companies
WESTFORD, Mass. - July 26, 2010 - EnterpriseDB, the enterprise Postgres company, today announced that Rob Bearden has joined its Board of Directors. As EnterpriseDB accelerates growth, Bearden brings more than 20 years of experience in building and scaling successful open source and enterprise software companies.
Bearden has made significant contributions in the open source community both advising and running successful companies. He served as chief operating officer (COO) for JBoss, the world's leading open source middleware company, where he helped architect and execute the company's business model, managed its worldwide operations and orchestrated its successful acquisition by Red Hat in 2006.
Most recently, Bearden was president and COO of SpringSource (acquired by VMware in 2009), where he helped drive business strategy, sales and operational excellence. Under his leadership, SpringSource grew to become a dominant platform for developers and a new standard platform for virtualized and cloud deployments.
"We are on a mission to change the database industry through the growth of Postgres, and having Rob on our team will help us accelerate that progress," said Ed Boyajian, president and CEO of EnterpriseDB. "Rob has a long track record of helping companies just like ours change the software segments they compete in - a perfect fit for EnterpriseDB at this time. We look forward to his keen insights as a member of our board."
"I've been part of the open source industry for many years, and it's refreshing to see what EnterpriseDB is doing to support the community and drive innovation forward," said Bearden. "I look forward to working with Ed, the rest of the executive team and the other board members to increase awareness and adoption of Postgres as the leading independent open source database."
Additionally, former MySQL and Embarcadero product leader Robin Schumacher has joined EnterpriseDB as director of product strategy. As director of product management at MySQL in 2005, Schumacher built the team that was responsible for producing the plans and roadmaps for all MySQL products. He was a key part of the largest open source software acquisition in history when Sun bought MySQL in 2008. As vice president of product management at Embarcadero Technologies, he led the product management team and was part of the executive management team of the company with the most successful IPO of 2000. Schumacher was most recently vice president of products at Calpont Corporation, a data warehousing database provider.
"Database design is my passion, and my previous work with open source and proprietary database products has me excited to apply my knowledge to Postgres and build on the terrific foundation that EnterpriseDB and the Postgres community have created," said Schumacher.
