Customers and Partners Praise Enhanced Oracle Compatibility,
Integrated Tool Set and Improved Database Administration Features

ISELIN, N.J., Mar. 16, 2006 – EnterpriseDB, the world’s leading enterprise-class, open source database company, announced today that EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1, the company’s flagship database product, has been promoted to “General Availability“ status. Advanced Server 8.1 is based on PostgreSQL, the world’s most advanced open source database. The latest version of Advanced Server has many new features, including support for Oracle-style packages, an integrated debugger and a suite of tuning, management and monitoring tools to improve database performance and administration. Free downloads of the General Availability version of the software are available on the company’s website, www.enterprisedb.com.

“EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1 really delivers on the promise of an enterprise-class database at open source prices. Contegix hosts a significant set of business applications for a Fortune 150 company on the EnterpriseDB product set, and we have seen terrific performance from the both the product and the company,” said Matthew Porter, chief executive officer, Contegix LLC. “The new additions of Oracle-style packages support, as well as the integrated debugger and other tools, are tremendous enhancements to an already rock-solid product.”

“In addition to its strong product capabilities, EnterpriseDB offers commercial-quality support and services that are just not available from PostgreSQL or any other pure open source community, ” said Mark Rizzo, vice president of operations, Perpetual Entertainment.

Advanced Server 8.1’s integrated debugger is used to develop and analyze stored procedures, functions, and triggers in applications written for EnterpriseDB, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases. Developers can use the debugger to execute code interactively to help understand its operation and to eliminate bugs prior to production.

Advanced Server 8.1 substantially extends EnterpriseDB’s Oracle compatibility by adding several features popular with experienced Oracle developers, including Oracle-style packages, sequence manipulation, cursor FOR loops and column alias options. These additions allow companies to migrate their advanced Oracle applications to EnterpriseDB with little or no change, better leveraging their previous Oracle investments.

EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1 also includes the DBA Management Server, which features powerful database monitoring, profiling, reporting, security, and querying capabilities that allow DBAs and developers to analyze, manage, and tune any number of databases from a single Web browser. In addition, Advanced Server 8.1’s dynamic tuning substantially reduces the effort required to tune the EnterpriseDB database.

“EnterpriseDB’s new DBA Management Server, which runs on top of JBoss, provides a robust database management and monitoring solution,” said Sacha Labourey, chief technology officer, JBoss, Inc. “We’re pleased to be a part of this major step forward for the EnterpriseDB product line.”
