Former vice president of MySQL to drive continued enterprise adoption of open source PostgreSQL database

WESTFORD, Mass. - April 12, 2010 - EnterpriseDB, the enterprise Postgres company, today announced that industry veteran and former Vice President of MySQL and Software Infrastructure at Sun Microsystems Karen Tegan Padir has joined the company as vice president of products and marketing. Padir will report directly to EnterpriseDB President and CEO Ed Boyajian.

Padir brings extensive industry experience including more than 15 years' tenure at Sun Microsystems where she served as vice president responsible for key Sun open source products including MySQL, GlassFish, Identity Management and SOA. Padir rejoined Sun in September 2005 after spending a year as vice president of engineering at Red Hat. Most recently she led the technology and engineering integration of MySQL, following its acquisition by Sun in early 2008.

"Having previously worked with Karen at Red Hat, I know firsthand that she will be an outstanding addition to our executive management team," said Ed Boyajian, president and CEO of EnterpriseDB. "With her industry knowledge and experience serving millions of users, she will help us bring even more value to our customers through the continued development and enterprise adoption of PostgreSQL."

While at Sun, Padir drove the market leading Identity Management products for single sign on and user and role provisioning including OpenSSO and OpenDS. As one of the founding members of the J2EE organization at Sun, Padir managed the creation of specifications, compatibility test suites, blueprints and guided implementations of Java in the enterprise. Under her leadership, Glassfish became the industry's most used Java EE compatible application server with over 27 million downloads to date.

"I have been a huge fan of PostgreSQL since my early work on Java and my belief in the technology has only grown stronger as I work with enterprise customers," said Karen Padir. "PostgresSQL is clearly ahead of its peers. It's a popular community of users, and its breadth of active and innovative contributors differentiate PostgresSQL as the leading independent open source database."

Padir, who began her career as a software engineer with Stratus Computer, holds a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's of science degree in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
