Latest Release of Enterprise-Class Database Includes Integrated Debugger, Enhanced Oracle Compatibility and Improved Database Administration

OPEN SOURCE BUSINESS CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 14, 2006 – EnterpriseDB, the world’s leading enterprise-class, open source database company, announced today at the Open Source Business Conference the release of EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1, a significant upgrade to the company’s flagship database product. Advanced Server 8.1 is based on PostgreSQL 8.1.2, the latest version of the world’s most advanced open source database, and includes Oracle-style packages, Oracle-style sequences and other features that improve compatibility with Oracle, an integrated debugger that facilitates stored procedure, function and trigger development, and a DBA Management Server and dynamic tuning capabilities to improve database administration. Free downloads of the new software are available on the company’s website, www.enterprisedb.com.

“The addition of Oracle-style packages and sequences and the improvement in our database administration capabilities have made EnterpriseDB more attractive than ever to organizations seeking to leverage their Oracle investments while realizing the benefits and cost savings of open source software,” said Andy Astor, chief executive officer of EnterpriseDB. “On top of that, we now include an integrated debugger at no additional charge. Oracle users have to separately purchase such tools to develop and debug their stored procedures and functions, making their choice of Oracle even more expensive.

Advanced Server 8.1’s integrated debugger can be used to develop and analyze stored procedures, functions and triggers in applications written for EnterpriseDB, Oracle and PostgreSQL databases. Using the debugger’s multiple breakpoints and step into, step over, restart, continue, stop and exit functions, developers can interactively execute code to help understand its operation and to eliminate bugs prior to production.

Advanced Server 8.1 substantially extends EnterpriseDB’s Oracle compatibility by adding several features popular with experienced Oracle developers, including Oracle-style packages, sequence manipulation, cursor FOR loops, column alias options and REM support. These additions allow companies to migrate their more advanced Oracle applications to EnterpriseDB with little or no change, thus better leveraging their Oracle investments.

EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1 also includes a new DBA Management Server, which features powerful database monitoring, profiling, reporting, security and querying capabilities that allow DBAs and developers to analyze, manage and tune any number of databases from a single Web browser. In addition, Advanced Server 8.1’s dynamic tuning substantially reduces the effort required to appropriately tune the EnterpriseDB database.

EnterpriseDB Corporation will be demonstrating EnterpriseDB Advanced Server 8.1 on February 14–15 at the Open Source Business Conference in San Francisco.
