EnterpriseDB’s Postgres Plus Advanced Server Achieves Common Criteria Certificate at Evaluation Assurance Level 2

Date -2011-11-02

BEDFORD, Mass. – November 2nd, 2011 – EnterpriseDB, today announced that it has achieved Common Criteria certification at the Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2 for EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus® Advanced Server 8.4 from the National Information Assurance Partnership, NIAP, a joint NSA and NIST security evaluation organization. Postgres Plus Advanced Server 8.4 is a relational database management system based on PostgreSQL, an open source database.

The National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) is a United States government initiative to meet the security testing needs of both information technology consumers and producers that is operated by the National Security Agency (NSA), and was originally a joint effort between NSA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Common Criteria is an international standard (ISO/IEC 15408) for computer security certification used by governments and other organizations to assess the security and assurance of technology products.

With Postgres Plus Advanced Server 8.4 certified with EAL2, government agencies can now utilize an Oracle compatible solution, which provides a scalable and easy to use alternative database, while providing significant cost savings. Postgres Plus Advanced Server technology allows users to migrate applications and data from production Oracle databases to Postgres Plus easily and seamlessly.

“We are honored to have achieved this level of Common Criteria certification from NIAP,” said Jay Barrows, vice president of global sales, EnterpriseDB. “Common Criteria guidelines are recognized worldwide and our customers in both the public and private sector who demand high levels of security can continue to be confident that EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server 8.4 is secure and being tested against strict international standards and guidelines."

“Achieving Common Criteria certification for its product demonstrates EnterpriseDB’s tremendous commitment to the government marketplace,” said Natalie Gregory, director of the open source government solutions group at Carahsoft, which serves as EnterpriseDB’s master government aggregator.  “This process provides defense, intelligence and other government agencies with third-party validation that product conforms with security and quality assurance standards.”
