A Day in the Life: Inside an APJ Renewals Director Role at EDB

October 13, 2026

In renewals, the number at the end of the quarter only tells part of the story. The rest is built week by week, in forecast calls, risk reviews, and while building strong cross-functional relationships that make the hard conversations easier.

In our “A Day in the Life” series, we explore the essential roles and individuals making an impact at EDB. In this spotlight, we chat with Tim Burdon, APJ Renewals Director, to learn how he runs his week with a “clear rhythm,” why he built his own single source of truth for renewals, and how EDB’s Wellness Friday lets him “disconnect 100%.”

A day in the life: The rhythm of renewals

Tim has been with EDB for two and a half years, leading the renewals business across Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ). For him, managing regional momentum isn’t a string of random days. It’s a structured, intentional week.

“My week has a clear rhythm to it,” Tim explains. Mondays are spent in regional forecast meetings with sales leaders, analyzing where APJ renewals stand and flagging risk early. On Tuesdays, he flips the focus to his own team: “I run forecast meetings with my own team, coaching them through their pipeline and working through tricky renewals.” Wednesdays and Thursdays are dedicated to risk reviews and pipeline work, while Fridays stay lighter to allow time for deep-work projects and prepping for the week ahead.

The renewals mindset: Self-sufficiency and ownership

To thrive in a regional leadership role at EDB, Tim believes you must balance rigorous attention to detail with proactive problem-solving. Being self-sufficient matters, but so does knowing when to collaborate.

“Renewals don’t happen in a silo,” Tim emphasizes. “The trust you build with everyone around you makes every conversation about forecast and risk easier to navigate.” He believes the people who excel at EDB are comfortable taking ownership rather than waiting for direction: “You don’t necessarily have to have all the answers. You need to be willing to go and try to find the answer, have that hard conversation, and if you can’t, don’t be shy to ask for help.”

Impact beyond the region: Building a single source of truth

With a strong background in business operations, Tim prefers to own his reporting. That operational instinct led directly to the initiative he’s most proud of at EDB: designing a comprehensive forecast framework customized for APJ renewals.

“I actually created an Excel forecast file that has everything I need to track renewals—bookings, delayed renewals, churn, risk,” Tim shares. “Instead of piecing fragmented views or reports together, this gives me and my team a single source of truth that we can use in real time during our forecast calls.”

Today, it’s a core part of how he runs the business in APJ. And what makes it meaningful to him is where it came from. “It’s something I built out of a need, rather than something that got handed down to me.”

Culture and perks: People first and room to recharge

A self-described “people person,” Tim values EDB’s collaborative, cross-functional dynamic. His leadership philosophy centers on collective empowerment rather than individual metrics.

“I try to put my team’s success above my own, because if they succeed, I succeed,” Tim notes. “Being in an environment where that mindset is supported by EDB, rather than just an individual numbers-only culture, makes the day-to-day job a lot more enjoyable, and I think it’s part of the reason why I do my best work here.”

When it comes to perks, Tim’s favorite is easy to name: Wellness Friday. Once a month, the entire company takes a Friday off to reset. “What makes it really different from a normal PTO is that everyone’s off. Normally when you go on PTO, you still have your phone, you’re still checking emails. But the way Wellness Friday works, everyone switches off. So I get to disconnect 100%.”
