EDB Technical Fellow Marc Linster presents at Open Source Day Warsaw, April 2024

EDB is proud to be part of the vibrant open source community. We recently had the chance to connect and share our expertise with more than 600 onsite participants at Open Source Day Warsaw 2024. Organized by Linux Polska, EDB’s long-term partner in Poland, this event provided an opportunity for onsite attendees and several thousand virtual participants to hear a variety of technology-oriented presentations touching on Kubernetes, Postgres, Security, Observability and DevOps.

As part of our involvement in the event, EDB gave two presentations: Piotr Kolodziej, Senior Sales Engineer, discussed Postgres Database Performance in his talk, reflecting on real-life experience and proven practices. Marc Linster, Technical Fellow, focused on New Frontiers for Postgres, the Most Loved, Most Wanted, and Most Used Database.

And we always welcome the opportunity to keep the conversation going. Many customers and prospects came to the EDB booth to follow up on the topics in the presentations and ask in-depth questions.

Here's a summary of what our discussions focused on at Open Source Day in Warsaw - April 2024

  • Fundamentals of Postgres, such as the use in mission-critical performance environments
  • High availability and resilience - Attendees asked, "Can I use Postgres to replace Oracle RAC or Oracle Golden Gate?" The answer is Yes - you are neither the first one nor the last one to do that. Postgres Distributed and Postgres Streaming Replication provide powerful alternatives that are cost-effective and don’t need specialty hardware.
  • Kubernetes and Cloud Native Postgres - Another question that came up is, "Are customers using it in production for mission-critical applications? Do you have references?" The answer is Yes and Yes. Talk to EDB and we will get you in touch with local customers who are using CNPG successfully at scale in production.
  • Legacy migration, especially from Oracle database - "Is it predictable and does it have a positive ROI?" The answer is Yes, this can be done in a very predictable way and EDB has all the right tools to provide a quick analysis of which databases to target, how long it will take and what the ROI will be.
  • Can you provide resources to help us deploy Postgres in the enterprise? Yes, we have a fully staffed professional services team in Europe and our local partner Linux Polska is very experienced in the deployment and operation of EDB Postgres.
