Build the Future with Data and AI

What if your idea could be the one that redefines what’s possible with data and AI?

We’re inviting students across the UK to submit bold, creative ideas that use open source technology, data, and AI to tackle real-world problems. Whether it's about protecting the environment, improving healthcare, or making cities smarter—this is your chance to think big, build smart, and be seen.

How it works

Submit a short proposal (max 1,200 words) and a video explaining your idea. Your submission should:

  • Identify a real-world problem
  • Explain how open source technology, AI, and data can help solve it
  • Outline the kind of data and tools you’d use
  • Share how you’d bring the idea to life

No code required. Just curiosity, creativity, and a compelling vision.

A chance to win

We’re not just celebrating ideas. We’re celebrating you—your passion, your potential, and your power to make an impact.

The winning entry will receive:

  • An exclusive pre-release copy of the new O’Reilly + EDB book: “Building a Data and AI Platform with PostgreSQL: Transforming Your Business with Intelligent Data”
  • A baby orphan elephant sponsored in your name through EDB’s partnership with the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
  • Recognition in a major UK media outlet
  • Mentorship and consulting hours with expert engineers from EDB
