EnterpriseDB and IBM® collaborate to integrate technology in new version of DB2

Date -2009-04-22 METUCHEN, N.J., April 22, 2009 - EnterpriseDB, the leading enterprise open source database company, today announced that IBM (NYSE: IBM) has licensed EnterpriseDB's technology to make it easier to deploy applications on DB2 9.7. The technology is among a set of capabilities in EnterpriseDB's award-winning Postgres Plus® Advanced Server. These capabilities enable customers to run applications written for Oracle Database - reducing the cost, time, and risk of migrating applications to Postgres Plus. More information is available at https://www.enterprisedb.com/solutions/ibm-db2-license. Previously, the companies announced a partnership and IBM's investment in EnterpriseDB's $10 million Series C venture capital financing.

"Our clients are increasingly taking advantage of DB2 to lower costs while improving the performance and reliability of their business applications," said Arvind Krishna, vice president, database servers and development, IBM. "We are excited to offer new capabilities in DB2 that make it even easier for them to do so."

EnterpriseDB's Database Compatibility Technology

EnterpriseDB has been a leader in innovative database compatibility technology since the company's launch in 2005. EnterpriseDB's compatibility technology is in its fifth generation of maturity and is being used in production at customer sites around the world, including FTD, Sony Online Entertainment, Info USA, and EPBS.

Postgres Plus Advanced Server's Oracle Database compatibility provides customers with:

  • Application Portability. Postgres Plus Advanced Server supports Oracle Database data types, SQL syntax and semantics, functions, and built-in packages; the Oracle PL/SQL® stored procedure language (including packages); and the Oracle Database call interface for application developers.
  • Skills Portability. Postgres Plus Advanced Server leverages the existing skills of Oracle Database professionals, including database administrators, application developers, and production support personnel.
  • Deployment Flexibility. Organizations can use Postgres Plus Advanced Server to deploy new Oracle Database-compatible applications; they can deploy instances of Postgres Plus Advanced Server and Oracle Database that interoperate seamlessly; and they can migrate existing Oracle Database applications to Postgres Plus Advanced Server.

"Database switching costs and risks have been a painful IT problem for decades. The database software landscape has historically been defined by vendor lock-in and limited application portability, and organizations are tired of it," said Ed Boyajian, chief executive officer, EnterpriseDB. "We're pleased to partner with IBM to give customers greater flexibility and control over their database management alternatives."
