GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server Dramatically Lowers Cost of High-Performance OLAP, Allowing Enterprises to Seamlessly Leverage Clusters of Commodity Hardware
SAN FRANCISCO, LINUXWORLD CONFERENCE AND EXPO, Aug. 7, 2007– EnterpriseDB, the Oracle-compatible database company, today announced the availability of GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server. The new product enables OLAP applications to seamlessly leverage clusters of inexpensive commodity servers while appearing as a single database to the applications. Using this capability, enterprises can easily meet complex data warehousing and business intelligence challenges at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions. More information and free downloads of GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server are available at www.enterprisedb.com/products/gridsql.
Using GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server, database performance scales nearly linearly as additional servers are added to the grid. To simplify management, GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server includes a robust suite of graphical management and monitoring tools that enable DBAs to monitor the entire grid from a single console.
Because GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server uses true grid technology that distributes data and shares computing resources at the database layer, existing applications run unchanged and application developers can create new applications as if they were accessing a single database on a single server. The complexity of distributing a query to all the databases in a grid, gathering and collating the resulting information, and returning a single response to the requester is transparently handled by GridSQL.
"GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server offers substantial OLAP performance increases without significantly increasing data center costs,” said Bob Zurek, chief technology officer, EnterpriseDB. “Clusters of low-cost commodity hardware can now deliver performance that previously required multi-processor machines costing hundreds of thousand of dollars or more. In addition, access to data in the grid is as simple as querying a single database."
EnterpriseDB will be demonstrating GridSQL for EnterpriseDB Advanced Server in booth #1302 from August 7–10 at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco.
