EnterpriseDB Receives High Marks from AQA
Postgres Plus Advanced Server deployed by UK’s largest academic examination board to empower 1000s of users across the UK
WESTFORD, Mass., December 15, 2009 - EnterpriseDB, the enterprise Postgres company, today announced that the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA), the UK’s largest examination board, has selected and deployed Postgres Plus Advanced Server to create a business-critical extranet application. Utilizing Postgres Plus as the database solution for its ‘Examiner Extranet,’ AQA empowers its users with reliable, real-time access to core business data in a secure and highly cost-effective manner, ultimately saving the non-profit organization valuable capital and ongoing operational expenses.
AQA is a registered non-profit charitable organization that provides services to teachers, examiners, moderators and students. It has more than 1,000 permanent staff and over 35,000 teachers, lecturers, advisers and consultants who assist in setting and marking exams for over 3.5 million students annually. By using EnterpriseDB’s Postgres Plus, AQA was able to considerably reduce the need for expensive printing and shipping of examination materials and deliver real savings in the software licensing and operational costs of the service when contrasted with other database offerings.
Low total cost of ownership and compatibility with existing database infrastructure were two key reasons AQA selected EnterpriseDB’s Postgres Plus Advanced Server over other open source and proprietary database offerings available to them. For the ‘Examiner Extranet,’ AQA identified that using existing database infrastructure would have been very costly to deploy and maintain. In order to reduce the overall licensing, support and maintenance costs of the new service AQA decided to utilize open source-based solutions as part of the overall project.
