EnterpriseDB to Sponsor PostgreSQL Community Annual Conference

EDISON, N.J., Mar. 18, 2008 EnterpriseDB announced today its participation in PGCon 2008, the annual conference for users and developers of PostgreSQL, the world's most advanced open source database. EnterpriseDB's Bruce Momjian and Pavan Deolasee, key PostgreSQL contributors and community leaders, will lead sessions on the first day of PGCon 2008. EnterpriseDB, a longtime supporter of the PostgreSQL community, is a Platinum Sponsor of the conference. PGCon 2008 will take place on May 22-23, 2008 at the University of Ottawa. More information about PGCon 2008 can be found at https://www.pgcon.org/2008/.

WHO: Bruce Momjian, Senior Database Architect, EnterpriseDB Pavan Deolasee, Lead Engineer, EnterpriseDB

Bruce Momjian will highlight the ways in which the PostgreSQL community will meet software development and other challenges differently in the future. Future changes include moving beyond feature parity with other databases and focusing on performance improvements for single-session workloads.

Pavan Deolasee will discuss the technical architecture of HOT (Heap-Only-Tuples), a key feature of PostgreSQL 8.3. HOT significantly increases the database's performance over long periods of time in update-intensive OLTP applications. Deolasee will discuss the internal architecture of HOT and the interesting technical challenges faced during HOT's development. He will also share HOT's performance statistics and limitations. HOT was conceived, designed, implemented, and shepherded through the PostgreSQL community development process by the EnterpriseDB team.
